My Khe Beach (An Thượng)

My Khe Beach is the star that has earned Da Nang the nickname 'The Maldives of Asia.' Stretching for several kilometers north to south, this area features fine white sands, gentle waves, and a coastal road lined with palm trees (Nguyen Van Troi Street), all located just a 10-minute drive from the city center. It is a district where you can spend your entire day by the sea, from morning swims and beach walks to daytime water activities and evening seafood feasts.

A Day at the Beach

Enjoy swimming and sunbathing, or try marine activities such as jet skiing, parasailing, and kayaking. During seasons with good waves, beginner surf lessons are also available. My An Beach to the south of My Khe and T20 Beach below it are relatively quieter, making them ideal for relaxed getaways, while the northern Pham Van Dong Beach is a free-access area popular with locals.

The An Thuong area west of the beach is a hub for food and nightlife, attracting foreign travelers. The area is densely packed with Vietnamese, Italian, Indian, and vegan restaurants, as well as casual bars and cafes. In the evening, the An Thuong Night Market opens, offering affordable skewers, grilled seafood, and desserts.

Seafood and Practical Tips

Along Nguyen Van Troi Street, you will find seafood restaurants where you can select fresh seafood directly from tanks for immediate preparation. Always confirm the price per kg and cooking method before ordering. To avoid being overcharged, ensure that shellfish and lobsters sold by weight are weighed in your presence. The beach is less crowded and the sun is less intense in the morning and late afternoon. On days with strong waves or rip currents, always check the safety flags (red = no swimming). Just a short drive south from My Khe, you will find Marble Mountains (Ngu Hanh Son), which make for a great half-day excursion.
