Son Tra Peninsula

Son Tra Peninsula is a lush, mountainous peninsula extending northeast from the heart of Da Nang, often referred to as 'Monkey Mountain.' It features a harmonious blend of primeval forests, coastal cliffs, and hidden beaches, making it the ideal area to escape the city's hustle and enjoy nature and panoramic views. It is just a 20-30 minute drive from the city center.

Linh Ung Pagoda and Scenic Drive

The symbol of the peninsula is the coastal Linh Ung Pagoda (灵应寺) and the approximately 67-meter-tall Lady Buddha statue standing before it. As the tallest Lady Buddha statue in Vietnam, it offers a sweeping view of Da Nang city and the My Khe coast from its base. There is no entrance fee, and it is generally open from around 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. As the pagoda is a sacred space, modest attire covering shoulders and knees is recommended.

Ban Co Peak (approx. 600-700m above sea level) at the summit is known as the 'roof' of Son Tra, offering panoramic views of Da Nang city, Hai Van Pass, and Ba Na Hills. The Radar Dome viewpoint near the summit is also a top photo spot. Along the road leading past the Lady Buddha towards the InterContinental Resort, you may encounter the endangered red-shanked douc langur (a type of monkey).

Hidden Beaches and Practical Tips

Ba Buom Beach below Linh Ung Pagoda, Thien Sa Beach to the west, and Gen Bang Rock, accessible by trekking, feature clear waters ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and picnics. Since there is no public transport within the peninsula, it is necessary to hire a Grab car for round-trip or travel by self-drive car or motorbike. The mountain roads are steep and curvy, so they are not recommended for beginner motorbike riders. Some sections near the summit may be closed in the late afternoon, so it is safer to plan your descent before sunset. Do not feed the monkeys or expose plastic bags.
