4 Days in Hanoi: Family's First Vietnam — Halong Bay & Ninh Binh Nature Adventure
From 6-star day cruises to 'Land Halong Bay' in Ninh Binh, a perfectly paced itinerary suitable for both kids and adults.
Why we recommend this plan
For a first trip to Vietnam with young children and parents, Hanoi is the ideal base. The key is to include one major attraction per day and ensure ample rest during transit. Hanoi is the only major hub in Vietnam from which you can visit both the UNESCO World Heritage Halong Bay (approx. 2.5 hours by car) and 'Land Halong Bay' in Ninh Binh (approx. 1.5 hours) as day trips. Unlike resort-only getaways, this allows you to show your children different grand natural wonders every day.
Why this itinerary was designed this way
- Alternating travel and sightseeing days helps maintain the children's energy levels. Arrival and departure days are kept light, while the two middle days are dedicated to Halong and Ninh Binh respectively.
- Instead of an overnight cruise where you sleep on board, we chose a 6-star day cruise. Returning to the comfort of a hotel bed each night for a good sleep is the core of a successful family trip.
- In Ninh Binh, we selected the Tam Coc rowboat route to keep children engaged on the water, while leaving the physically demanding 486-step Hang Mua climb as an optional activity.
We eliminate immigration queues with an airport VIP fast track, and conclude the final day with a checkout tour that combines city sightseeing, massage, and airport transfer, allowing you to leave without the burden of luggage. By basing the trip at Lotte Hotel, familiar to Korean and Thai families, we reduce the stress of an unfamiliar first journey.
