The beginning and end of a Da Nang journey is the city center along the Han River (Song Han). Walkways stretching along the river and six bridges create the city’s skyline, and as the sun sets, lights illuminate the river surface, revealing a landscape entirely different from daytime. Just 10–15 minutes by car from the airport, most hotels and attractions are clustered in this area, making it an ideal base camp for the first day of independent travel.

Culture by Day, Riverside Walks by Night

By day, visit the Cham Sculpture Museum to see approximately 2,000 stone relics from the Cham Kingdom, and take photos at the pink Da Nang Cathedral (locally known as the 'Rooster Cathedral'), built during the French colonial era. At Han Market, which has been operating since the 1940s, bargain for dried fruits, coffee, and clothing, and taste Central Vietnamese local dishes like Mi Quang and Banh Xeo at alleyway eateries.

The real charm emerges in the evening. The Love Bridge on the riverbank lights up with red heart-shaped lamps, while the dragon-shaped Dragon Bridge (Cau Long) illuminates the night right in front of it. On Friday, Saturday, Sunday evenings and public holidays around 9:00 PM, the Dragon Bridge performs a show for about 15 minutes, spitting fire and water from its mouth. Time your visit to secure a spot on the eastern sidewalk of the bridge or at a riverside cafe. For family trips, enjoy the approximately 115-meter-tall Sun Wheel Ferris wheel and other rides at Sun World Da Nang Wonders (Asia Park) on the south side of the river.

Recommended Route & Practical Tips

A half-day itinerary comfortably covers the Cathedral, Han Market, and the Cham Museum on foot, concluding with an evening riverside stroll to see the Love Bridge and the Dragon Bridge show. Grab cars or motorbikes are affordable and convenient for transportation. At markets, always ask for prices first and bargaining is standard. Only Vietnamese Dong (VND) is accepted, so exchange currency in advance at the airport or city gold shops. On nights when the Dragon Bridge show occurs, nearby roads may be restricted or congested, so it is best to arrive early.
