The island after dark

One night market, one bar street — and one at each end of the island

The geography of a Phu Quoc night is simple. Dương Đông town has one night market and one main street of bars (Trần Hưng Đạo); Grand World sits at the island's northern end and Sunset Town at the southern one. That is the whole map. The catch is that those three are 30 to 50 minutes apart by car — try to do two of them in one night and the evening goes into the driving. One a night is enough.

The market opens from six and runs on seafood. The problem that comes up most often here is not the food but the bill. Fish and crab on the ice are priced by weight and some stalls post no prices at all. There is one method: ask the per-kilo rate before you choose, watch it go on the scale, confirm the total out loud, then hand it over to be cooked. Those three steps head off almost every dispute.

And the island roads at night are genuinely dark. Long stretches have no lighting and motorbikes ride without lights. If you are leaving town in the evening, take a car rather than a bike and fix your ride home in advance — Grab is thin out of town late.

Dinh Cậu Night Market

From six, whatever came in that day, laid out on ice

It sets up along Võ Thị Sáu street in Dương Đông from six in the evening, right beside the Dinh Cậu shrine and the jetty, which is where the name comes from. Both sides of the street are lined with ice beds of fish, squid, crab, scallops and prawns; you point, and it is grilled over charcoal or steamed on the spot. Scallops grilled with scallion oil and peanuts (sò điệp nướng mỡ hành) are the safest first order, then whole grilled squid and salt-grilled prawns. Between the seafood there are bánh xèo stalls, rolled ice cream, fruit juice and dried-seafood counters, so eating your way along on foot works well. Plates start at 20,000₫; anything sold by weight varies a great deal.

Before you goFor anything sold by weight, follow the order: ask the per-kilo rate → watch the scale → confirm the total. Do those three and you will almost never have a problem; skip one and the number changes at the end. Favour stalls with prices posted, and bring cash in small notes — few stalls take cards. Closing time is reported anywhere between 21:00 and 23:00, so arriving before eight is the reliable move. Check that the eyes of the fish on the ice are clear before you point.

Thị trấn Hoàng Hôn (Sunset Town) — An Thới

Sunset Town, An Thới

The southern tip, where the night starts on a flight of steps

A Mediterranean-styled district built at An Thới on the island's southern tip. A tiered plaza steps down toward the sea, and in front of it stands Cầu Hôn, the Kiss Bridge, its two arms reaching toward each other. As the sun goes down people start taking seats on the steps, and at night there is the Kiss of the Sea show out on the water, with fireworks. Food is whatever the restaurants and stalls around the plaza are doing, and the range is narrower than Dương Đông — but you come here for the scene rather than the meal. The Hòn Thơm cable car station is in the same district, so the common route is the cable car in the daytime and this in the evening. Roughly 30–50 minutes by car from Dương Đông.

Before you goShow times shift by season and get cancelled in bad weather — check on the day before you set off. Good seats on the steps are gone about forty minutes before it starts. It is a long way from Dương Đông, so arrange your ride back in advance — everyone leaves at once when the show ends and the Grab queue gets long. There are a lot of steps, so keep the route short if you have a pushchair or anyone who walks with difficulty. The evening sea breeze makes a light layer worth carrying.

Grand World Phu Quoc

The northern end, and a walk along a 400-metre canal

A complex opened in April 2021 at Bãi Dài in the island's north. Gondolas run along a 400-metre artificial canal with shops and restaurants down both banks, and there is a water show every day. There is a night-market food zone, and plenty of people simply eat dinner here. The Dương Đông noodle institution Bún Quậy Kiến Xây has a branch inside (Shanghai quarter, SA-01-43), so if you are staying up north you can have that bowl without driving into town. It shares a district with VinWonders and Vinpearl Safari, which makes it the natural evening to a day spent in the north.

Before you goIt is a serious drive north of Dương Đông, so tie it to a northern day (VinWonders, Vinpearl Safari). The complex is large and you will walk a lot; show times and gondola hours shift by season, so read the board when you arrive. Prices sit at resort-complex level rather than street level. Fix your ride home in advance — this road is dark at night and Grab is thin out here after hours.

Open to two in the morning — the last seat in Dương Đông

Down alley 118 off Trần Hưng Đạo, this is among the latest-opening places in Dương Đông. Ten in the morning to two at night, every day, which makes it the answer when the night market has packed up and there is nowhere obvious to go. It is run as an Irish pub — sport on the screens, a pool table, a menu that mixes Western and Vietnamese. It is not where you go for authentic local food; its usefulness is the hour. A late flight, a hungry midnight, an evening the rain took the beach away — the value here is that the door is open.

Before you goIt is down an alley (number 118) and the sign is hard to spot from the main road — show your Grab driver the street number. On match nights it is loud, so pick somewhere else for a quiet evening. The menu leans Western, which means a lot of plates contain pork (bacon, sausage) — check before ordering if you avoid it. It runs to two, but the kitchen can close earlier, so go before midnight if the point is a meal.

Rory's "The Wreck" Beach Bar

⚠️ The old address is wrong — it moved to the east side

Plenty of older guides and map pins still point to 118/10 Trần Hưng Đạo, but this bar has moved to Cây Sao on the island's east side — a quiet beach about thirty minutes by car from Dương Đông. Timber structures built to look like a wreck stand on the sand around the bar, with mini golf, a natural rock pool and bungalows alongside. The food is Western: burgers, fish and chips. Because it now faces east rather than west, you will not see the sun go into the sea — what you get instead is a quiet evening with the dusk colouring the sky behind you. If that is what you want, it is a good seat.

Before you go⚠️ Do not follow the old pin (118/10 Trần Hưng Đạo) — it is on the east side now. Call +84 91 933 3950 first to confirm the location and that they are open; we could not verify their hours. It is thirty minutes from Dương Đông and the road back has no street lighting — we would not recommend a motorbike at night, so arrange a car both ways. It faces east, so no sunset. There are mosquitoes on the beach; bring repellent.

Ganesh Indian Restaurant

Dinner without pork, and dinner without meat at all

An Indian restaurant at 97 Trần Hưng Đạo, in the middle of Dương Đông's night strip. It is on this list for a plain reason: evening food on this island runs on seafood and pork, and if you don't eat pork, or don't eat meat, your options narrow fast. An Indian kitchen solves that in one move. The curries are split into vegetable, chicken and lamb, and with dal, palak paneer, roti, naan and biryani on the menu you can step around pork entirely. Ask and they will adjust the heat. It is on the same street as the night market, which also makes it easy when only one person in the group is avoiding pork.

Before you goPlenty of dishes contain no pork and the vegetarian section is clear, but we could not confirm halal certification — ask the kitchen directly if you need it, including whether oil and equipment are shared. Tell them your heat level and they will adjust. We could not confirm their hours, so aim for the dinner window; there are a couple of other Indian places on the same street if you find the door shut.

The Dog Bar

A short walk out of the night market

At 88 Trần Hưng Đạo, within walking distance of the night market. Burgers and pizzas lead the menu, with Western, Vietnamese and seafood dishes alongside, which makes it a good change of direction after a night market full of seafood — or when seafood is the last thing you want. Sport on the screens, a pool table and a dart board, and live music on some nights. They list their closing only as "till late", so the actual hour depends on the night. That is fairly typical of this island after dark: open while there are people, shut when there aren't.

Before you goIt is walkable from the night market, so night market → here connects well. There is no fixed closing time, so call ahead (+84 90 381 4688) if you are going late. Burgers and pizzas often carry bacon or ham, so say so when ordering if you avoid pork. Live music nights are loud.
